Case: one workshop link for preparation and follow-up materials
Students have already saved the preparation link. After the workshop, the instructor wants that same email and slide QR to open the exercises. This repeatable update prevents a second link from getting buried in the conversation.
Training case: the scenario and numbers are invented for practice. This is not a customer report or a promise of higher sales.
Prepare the files and access rules
The kit includes workshop-v1.html for preparation and workshop-v2.html for practice. Publish both on your public HTTPS site outside sosu.su and test them while signed out. The files contain no personal records, data-collection forms, or external scripts.
For private teaching material, set permissions on the document platform itself. A password on the short link does not protect a publicly reachable destination, and recipients can share the direct address. This exercise tests updating, not confidential document protection.
Use one entrance for both stages
- Create an account-owned 302 link to the first file and name it “Workshop materials.” Save the generated short URL.
- Put it in an email draft to yourself and download its QR for a slide. There is no need to send a class-wide message for the test.
- Open the link from the draft and scan the QR with a phone. Both should show “Before class: preparation.”
- Check the second page directly, then edit the existing short link to point to workshop-v2.html. Preserve any restrictions you intend to keep.
- Open the original short link from the old draft and scan the original QR again. Both should show “After class: practice.”
- Keep the first destination in your notes so you can restore it if the update is wrong.
Verify both entry points
| Entry point | Before | After |
|---|---|---|
| Link in old email | Preparation | Practice |
| QR on existing slide | Preparation | Practice |
| Already-open destination tab | Old page | Does not update itself |
A short link cannot change a destination tab that is already open. Ask the student to reopen the original short address; refreshing the destination skips the redirect.
Make the handoff useful
Show the course name, version, and next action on the landing page. If students still need both sets of materials, point the short URL to a stable index that links to preparation and exercises.
Do not set a limit of 30 clicks for a class of 30: students may return repeatedly. Let expiration cover revision time. Requests show access attempts, not reading completion or learning outcomes.
Save a compact evidence record
- Before-and-after page screenshots with the address bar.
- The original email draft and unchanged QR file.
- The update time and a phone verification note.
- The previous destination for rollback, without passwords or student information.
Result to verify
The old email and old QR open the practice material. Check the student’s submitted work separately; the short-link counter cannot tell you whether an exercise was completed.
Sources and resources
Includes two menu versions, two workshop handouts, and a verification sheet. Host the HTML files on your own public HTTPS website outside sosu.su before testing a redirect: SOSU cannot shorten its own domain.
