How to use a URL shortener for campaigns without losing trust

A campaign URL can carry useful tracking and still look like it packed for a three-week road trip. A short link keeps the message readable without throwing the destination under the bus.

Give every link one job

Start with the channel and audience: email, social post, printed card, or internal handoff. Keep UTM parameters in the destination, then create one short URL for that placement. A readable custom slug helps the team recognize it later; an automatic SOSU root is faster when the link only needs to ship.

Choose 302 unless permanence is the point

A 302 link lets you correct or update the destination after launch. A 301 link is intentionally immutable in SOSU.SU, which is useful for a final resource but unforgiving when someone pasted the staging page at 4:59 PM. Match the redirect type to the real lifecycle, not to habit.

Test the boring details

Open the short link on mobile and desktop, confirm the full query string, and use the safe preview before sending. Add a password or expiration when access is limited. The glamorous part is the campaign idea; the useful part is not emailing a broken link to 40,000 people.
